By branding Republicans as ‘racist,’ this nationwide company risks alienating a significant amount of customers.
The owner of Wisconsin-based Penzey Spices seems to hate Republicans.
That is, of course, within his rights.
However, Bill Penzey Jr. doesn’t just hate Republicans, he has a history of writing anti-Republican screeds to his customers and, it seems, more than a few are fed up with it.
With a chain of some 70 retail stores and 700,000 catalog and on-line customers, Penzey Jr. sent a missive to his readers following the November election stating (in part):
For the rest of you [Republicans], you just voted for an openly racist candidate for the presidency of the United States of America. In your defense, most of you did so without thinking of the consequences of your candidate’s racism, because for most of you the heartbreaking destruction racism causes has never been anything you or your loved ones have had to experience. But the thing is elections have their consequences. This is no longer sixty years ago. Whether any of us like it or not, for the next four years the 80% of this country who did not just vote for an openly racist candidate are going to treat you like you are the kind of person who would vote for an openly racist candidate.
You can get angry at everyone else for treating you like you just did the thing you just did, or you can take responsibility for your actions and begin to make amends. [Emphasis added.]
While that screed was just after the November election, Penzey emailed more of his anti-Republicanism this week.
.@PenzeysSpices sent me this.
Bought $1,000 of spices from you in 2016; more just 2 days ago.

Penzey’s Spices isn’t the only company that has a CEO who has gone public bashing Republicans.
In November, a small New Mexico businessman wrote a letter to customers stating that he would no longer do business with supporters of Donald Trump.
